Safety of Textmods?
Hi everyone, i'm working on my title tracks at the moment and some people said that with textmods cartography is really easy, and seeing as i'm on 80% tyria i am considering trying to max it.
My only concern is that when i clicked on a link to textmods this was at the top of the page: Warning: Directly modifying the Guild Wars program files through any third party tools is completely unsupported by ArenaNet and NCSoft. If anything breaks, do not contact support for help; there's nothing they can do about it. Warning: Modifications listed on this page may not have been tested, USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. My question is, how safe are these textmods to use, is there anyone here who has used them and what, if anything happened. Also can somebody please post a screen showing the effect it has on the map. Thanks in advance for your help. |

I am not using it myself but it is perfectly safe to use it and it is allowed. As long as you do not change the GW File itself everything is fine. Using textmods only changes the appearance on your screen so no harm done Check out this thread for mods and more information: http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...73288&page=01]

I've used several texmod files in relation to guild wars, from the map mods to customising skins myself. I've had no issues with any that I have used, and the worst any of my friends have suffered is having to repair their data archive. I think it's unrelated, the friend in question has it happen repeatedly even without using texmod.
There are a couple of different ones out there. The main one I'd be tempted to use has unexplored areas covered in a yellow fog, with areas you cannot explore being shown in a more solid yellow. The disclaimer by Anet is that if something happens that messes up your installed game, or even your computer, that they are in no way responsible for it and don't have to provide help in resolving the matter. I've heard of nobody having this happen to them though. |

I've dabbled with Texmod. It seems OK. It needs to run first then it loads GW. Some weird stuff to the graphics sometimes but the red fog makes it a lot easier to find parts of the stuff that matter. Turn off post-process effects in your graphics options if you have problems. Guild wiki has links to it and the proper files. It is a little klunky to get to run - first you load the GW app into the program, then you select the map file, but it does work and if you don't use it next time you play there is no permanent change. The current Tyria with GW:EN has been removed from the list as it is not up to date yet and I imagine there will be an update to this map in short order.

Personally, I've never been interested in modding. I figure that if nobody else can see it, what's the point. I've looked a few of the mods that enhance your health bar and aggro circle. They seem useful, but they're not for me.
Having said all that, I am using the "yellow fog" cartography aid mentioned above. I love it. I didn't like it at first. It definitely takes some getting used to and it definitely does some quirky things with my older computer. (That's part of the "if it crashes ya, don't come whining to us" disclaimer) yet it definitely is helping me find those areas I still need to explore. I was at 80% when I downloaded it and I'm at 85% now. (Yeah, I'm currently keeping busy with GW:EN) |

Hit my 90% mark yesterday using it...i'm at 92.5% now and I don't even have half of Lornar's pass and most of Dreadnought's Drift. Clean up Mineral springs and do the Ring of Fire mission without the bonus and I'll be all set.

I use it and I got Canthan Grandmaster with 0 problems. I dont have the link...but if you search GWW, you can find it easy. Its really helpful. Be careful with the tyria map, some spots are bugged thanks to release of GWEN.
Regardless, the mods for cart are amazingly helpful and will make it a ton easier...I dont know how I tried to do it without it. (Kudos to the ones who earned grandmaster without using mods) -Tiki |
